While it might be 2010, it doesn’t hurt to reflect on yester-year and recognize the memorable things of 2009. The world of fashion encompasses such a broad spectrum that to create a favorite’s list can be a little intimidating. To make the job a little bit easier, I’ve create a universal list (in no specific order) of my personal favorite items that would look great with any look. Here are my favorite 5 fashion items of 2009.
5. Retro Super Future Sunglasses
There’s no doubt that Wayfarer sunglasses made a huge comeback in 2009. Italian-based Retro Super Future may have interpreted the iconic style the best in 2009. With collaborations galore and the most unique colors around, Retro Super Future (better know as Super) sunglasses have definitely stood out from the pack. You know the brand is hot if stars like Kanye West, Jay-Z, Rihanna, David Beckham and more are sporting these shades. An all black pair would pair exceptional with any outfit. Look for the brand to stay strong in 2010 with new models, innovative finishes and more exclusive collaborations. RetroSuperFuture
4. Nooka Watches
I’ve been hooked on this brand since late 2008. Since then, I’ve managed to acquire 4 Nooka watches. 2009 brought the creative watch brand into the limelight with numerous collaborations with various companies such as BrooklynCircus, Spongbob Squarepants, MTV and more. The innovative time design and fresh colorways always make these watches stand out from the pack. 2010 should bring the brand even more praise as they venture beyond watches and into a broader accessories market. 3. Levi’s 514 Imprint Jeans
These are a must! Talk about clothing that lasts, these jeans look better the more and longer you wear them. Aptly named IMPRINT jeans, the wash and wear becomes visible around your body’s natural seating areas. And at under $40, this denim can go a long way for indoor, outdoor, casual and street looks. Forget about expensive designer denim, just after a couple months, these will start to look like $200+ jeans. Levis 514
2. Plaid Shirts
Almost every label had them this year, and for every season. From lightweight fabrics in the summer to heavy flannels in the winter, plaid shirts were seen everywhere from the top entertainers to mall rats to the corner thugs. Catch me on any casual workday in this comfy attire. They ranged from $30 Gap button-ups all the way up to $150 Levi’s Fenom. Some of more notable shirts have come from Acapulco Gold, DQM, Stussy, Pendleton, and Woolrich. They might not be as hot in 2010 as in 2009, but they are always classic apparel.
1. Gilt.com
Okay so it may not be a fashion item, but this is definitely a must for any fashion-minded person. There is only one place on the internet that has me on the seat edge of my seat everyday at noon and ready to spend my hard earned money feverishly. That website is Gilt.com. Gilt does what other sample sale/luxury discount site don’t do, offer the best products in a cool way at the cheapest price. The clothing brands that are featured daily are the top names in the industry from Prada and Burberry to Alife and Kidrobot. The sleek interface easily allows the customer to pick one of the daily brands, choose items and checkout at a fast rate creating a “first in, first out, early bird gets the worm” atmosphere. Recently Gilt has expanded its website into home, childrens, mens and womens sections which allows for super gifts for the entire stylish family. Gilt membership is by invite-only, so here is New Year’s gift to you all. Gilt
